I've had you on my mind a lot today. Halloween was our thing for many years. I remember when we were little, sitting on the loveseat in Surrey, already in our costumes, staring (mostly) patiently out of the window, willing the sun to set so we could go out and get some treats. Life was definitely more simple back then. Pure, and not as rushed as it is today. I know it makes me sound old to lament the loss of such childhood innocence, but it was a time when I still believed the world was safe and would always be ok.
I'm not sure you would have liked this modern world. Heck, I'm not sure I like it either. If you can believe it, I think we will see a world war in three to five years from now. It's like all my nightmares and anxieties are coming true. Even my Ebola fears are real now.
Anyway, back to Halloween memories. Do you remember when I got into trouble for showing you the music video of Michael Jackson's Thriller? You got so scared, bless your heart. It was 1982--you would have been 8 so I would have been 10. I was really into Michael Jackson but I was henceforth forbidden, by maternal decree, to play the Thriller song so as not to upset you. I still did though, didn't I. It was the maniacal laughing at the end of the song that did it. I'm sort of sorry. That's just what big sisters are supposed to do.
Do you remember when we both had Michael Jackson jackets - yours was black and mine was red. I even had one sparkly glove. I wonder what happened to those jackets. Obviously we outgrew them, but where they landed up I haven't the slightest. I think your jacket looked better tbh, but I had to have the authentic colour!
A lot has happened since the last time I wrote you. A lot of complicated and painful things, and some very cool amazing things. I promise I'll come back here and catch you up.
